Warner Bros. looking at other DC films to replace Batman’s filming slot

The stand alone Batman film appears to be cursed, between script problems, director musical chairs and stints in rehab.  With that said filming in 2018 is no longer within the reach of Batman’s batarang.  This brings up the question of what should Warner Bros. do with this filming void?  According to Variety writer Justin Kroll, WB is looking to fill this vacancy with another DC property.  He also states that their are 5 films up for consideration;  Gotham Sirens, The Flash, Green Lanterns, Suicide Squad 2 and Dark Universe.

It is hard to predict which one would be most likely ready by 2018 to start filming.  Green Lantern Corps, Suicide Squad 2, and The Flash are all director-less, while Gotham City Sirens and Justice League Dark Universe are closer in that regard.  It is rumored that The Flash is in no shape to begin production any time soon.  This also leaves the question of when will Cyborg, and Shazam! begin filming, both films have release dates but no directors or completed scripts.

Batman was delayed mainly due to new director, Matt Reeves, having prior obligations to the upcoming Planet of The Apes film and will not be able to start the early stages of production (casting and finalizing script) until June at the earliest.  This is also paired with the news that Ben Affleck has just finished rehab for alcohol abuse, releasing the following statement on Facebook:

I have completed treatment for alcohol addiction; something I’ve dealt with in the past and will continue to confront. I want to live life to the fullest and be the best father I can be. I want my kids to know there is no shame in getting help when you need it, and to be a source of strength for anyone out there who needs help but is afraid to take the first step. I’m lucky to have the love of my family and friends, including my co-parent, Jen, who has supported me and cared for our kids as I’ve done the work I set out to do. This was the first of many steps being taken towards a positive recovery.

It can be assumed and understood that Affleck will be putting his and his family’s well being first.  Affleck is still attached to the film as an actor and producer and should be viewed as a key part in this movie’s success.
