The Great Eights – More Great Indie Titles for 6-18-2014

Our Rating

We complete our top-of-the-line round-up of great indie titles this week with some 8/10 spectacular stories from the world of indie comics! We’ll lead off with:

TUROK: DINOSAURE HUNTER #5 (Dynamite) – Greg Pak begins a new arc in this tale, as Turok meets Altani, Captain of the Skyiders.  She has the same ability to deal with prehistoric beasts as Turok…but, where will their time together take Turok?  And, why does she keep advising Turok to “go east”? The artwork by Mirko Colak is spot-on in this amazing tale.  8/10

THOMAS ALSOP #1 (BOOM! Studios) – Who is Thomas Alsop? WHAT is Thomas Alsop? The latest “Hand of the Island” has met a danger far greater than the spiritual dangers he keeps at bay from the inhabitants of Manhattan Island…Reality TV! A great start to this tale by Chris Miskiewicz and great artwork by Palle Schmidt.  8/10

CLIVE BARKER’S NEXT TESTAMENT #10 (BOOM! Studios) – Tristan and Elspeth are looking for the secret to defeating Wick.  Can they find out that secret before all of reality is “remade” in the image of an insane god?  Clive Barker and Mark Miller script this issue, with the superb artwork of Haemi Jang and colors by Vladimir Popov. Easily an 8/10

EYE OF NEWT #1 (Dark Horse) – The apprentice to a great wizard, named (of course) Newt, prepares for his final test in a world filled with magic, dragons…and danger!  The artwork is outstanding in this issue, scripted, drawn and inked by Michael Hague.  This is a beautifully illustrated tale, with plenty of danger and intribue.  8/10
