THE 10 SPOT – BLOODSHOT REBORN and SIDEKICK

Our Rating

Welcome to another installment of The 10 Spot – a quick round-up of the very best books from indie publishers this week. This week brings us the conclusion to two amazing arcs – BLOODSHOT REBORN #9 and SIDEKICK #12! Let’s get started with…

BLOODSHOT REBORN #9 (Valiant) – Jeff Lemire’s amazing arc comes to a close as Bloodshot reclaims his legacy…not without change, and not without some very difficult choices to be made. Bloodshot has always been an outstanding character, but never more so than in BLOODSHOT REBORN. The artwork brings this story to life with all the darkness the story demands, but also humanizing this one-time killing machine – thanks to Butch Guice (pencils), Tom Palmer (inks), and David Baron (colors). BLOODSHOT REBORN is a story that can hold up to scrutiny years from now…don’t miss it! 10/10

SIDEKICK #12 (Image/Joe’s Comics) – J. Michael Straczynski has deconstructed the superhero sidekick, and you will never look at those young wanna-be’s in the same way again. SIDEKICK #12 brings the story of the one-time Flyboy to a conclusion in the most brutal way possible. We began this series with great sympathy for Barry Chase…but no more after the revelations here. The art by Tom Mandrake (with colors by HiFi) has reflected this metamorphosis throughout the series, turning darker by the issue to culminate in this outstanding issue. SIDEKICK is a masterpiece! 10/10

That’s it for our 10 Spot this week – but we still have more great indie comics in our “Pressed to the Nines” feature and our “Great Eights”. And, keep checking in throughout the week with TMStash for all your news, reviews and commentary!
