Seat’s Taken: Review of “Nova” #7 (feat. Superior Spider-Man)

Sam Alexander has been through a lot lately.  He has discovered that his father was a member of the intergalactic police squad known, The Nova Corps.  Since donning the helmet and becoming the new Nova he has had some exciting adventures that include helping Earths mightiest heroes defeat the Phoenix Force and even helping members of the Guardians of the Galaxy.  Now he’s ready to spread his wings and dig in to a bigger city.  However, he’s about to find out how superior the heroes of a big city can be.

Nova heads to New York City with a head full of steam and a heart full hope, ready tonova7 be its new savior.  He soon runs into trouble as he gets in the way of New York’s elite heroes, The Superior Spider-Man.  In his own, special sarcastic way, Spider-Ock tells the kid that there isn’t room in New York for any more heroes, much less one who isn’t even old enough to drive!  Frustrated, he heads off to another big city only to realize how green he is in the super hero business as he runs into, what I believe to be, a cameo by everyone’s favorite Marvel director, Joss Whedon.  He ultimately realizes that he must return to his own “back yard” where he can do the most good, for now.

Nova has been a fun book to read, thanks to the penmanship of Zeb Wells.  I like seeing the Superior Spider-Man making an appearance in this title as well as the scene that hints at a possible team reunion from days past.  Paco Medina (pencils), Juan Vlasco (ink), and David Curiel’s (color) sharp work on this book keep me coming back.  Nova #8 should hit shelves () and is looking to be an Infinity tie-in!  Be sure to head on over to your local comic shop to check out this and other great titles from Marvel.
