Four Star Hellos and Goodbyes – Reviews of “HELLRAISER” #12 and “NEXT TESTAMENT” #7

HellraiserDarkWatch_12_rev_Page_1NextTestament_07_rev_Page_1One excellent series from the mind of Clive Barker is coming to an end…thankfully, we get to continue the ride with his imagination in another series that continues to impress.  “Hellraiser: The Dark Watch” brings the battle for Hell and Earth to a conclusion with issue #12, and “Next Testament” #7 raises the bar another notch in the story of Wick, whose destructive power seems to hold no limit!

In “Hellraiser: The Dark Watch” Kirsty is forced to make a tragic choice…and that’s just the start of the story.  The battle between Leviathan’s and Abbadon’s forces comes down to another choice…with surprising consequences.  Oh, and were you expecting a happy ending?  You know we’re talking “Hellraiser”, right?  Let’s just say that the ending is right on the money for a “Hellraiser” series…you won’t want to miss this one!  Clive Barker and Brandon Seifert’s script is spot-on for this finale, wrapping up the storyline in a highly entertaining and effective way.  The artwork (pencils/inks by Tom Garcia with colors by Vladimir Popov) continues with the high bar set for this series.  If the ending weren’t so perfect I’d hate to see this end…hopefully there will be more from the universe of “Hellraiser” soon.

In “Next Testament”, Wick finally finds a second human being who can impress him. Wick is looking for a monument to be built in his name…how about a pyramid?  What, you need bricks? Wick can provide… Meanwhile Tristan and Elspeth are driving through the devastation of last issue in an attempt to get help…if there is any help at all that can stop someone with the power of a god.  Just what does Wick have planned next?  You can be certain it is utter devastation.  Clive Barker and Mark Miller team up for this remarkable tale of seemingly unlimited power in the hands of a sociopath.  Haemi Jang handles the pencils/inks with Vladimir Popov once again on colors.  This story will have your brain twisted in knots…no telling what will happen next, but I’m looking forward to seeing it in the next issue.

These two series are simply outstanding – don’t miss them at your LCS!
