PRESSED TO THE NINES – GREAT INDIE TITLES FOR 3-25-2015

Our Rating

The indie scene has some truly amazing titles, and even more must-read books that we could get to in our “10 Spot” feature. THAT’s why we have PRESSED TO THE NINES, books that rated a 9/10 on our review scale that are at your local comic shops NOW! Let’s get started with…

THE VALIANT #4 (Valiant) – Wow! This not only wraps up an excellent storyline pitting the Eternal Warrior against the Immortal Enemy, but it sets a new reality moving forward for another iconic Valiant character. Jeff Lemire and Matt Kindt have delivered an exceptional mini-series, with wonderful art by Paolo Rivera (with Joe Rivera). You’ll want to collect all four issues of this one – well worth our rating of 9/10

WYTCHES #5 (Image) – Scott Snyder can bring creepy to the page exceptionally well – and he turns it up a notch with this issue of WYTCHES. Charlie is not going to give up on finding Sailor, no matter what it takes, no matter where he has to go to find her. This story is told on at least two different levels, and the result it stunning. The art by Jock (with colors by Matt Hollingsworth) is perfect in setting the tone for this tale – a title that has the unanimous support of our review crew. 9/10

WAYWARD #6 (Image) – Jim Zub starts this issue out with the tale of another young girl in Japan…and ties it back to the main storyline in amazing fashion. I have trouble deciding what impresses me more with this book – the exceptional script or the beautiful artwork ( by Steve Cummings, with colors by Tamra Bonvillain). Wow! 9/10

DREAM POLICE #6 (Image/Joe’s Comics) – The dream world holds a lot of secrets – and we get a peek at even more surprises in this issue as Joe and Kate head out for the place they believe will provide all the answers. But, will they make it long enough to get there? This strange tale continues to impress, with script by J. Michael Straczynski and art by Sid Kotian (with colors by Juan Fernandez). 9/10

That’s it for “Pressed to the Nines” for this week – but we still have the “Great Eights” to go! And, keep checking back with TMStash throughout the week for all your news, reviews and commentary!
