Pressed to the 9s: WAYWARD, X-O MANOWAR

Our Rating

Welcome back to PRESSED TO THE 9’s, our look at some of the best indie comics available at your comic shop NOW! This week you’ll find WAYWARD #25 from Image, and X-O MANOWAR #9 from Valiant! Let’s get started with…

WAYWARD #25 ( Image) – The best stories draw you in, make you a part of a world filled with wonder, leaving you amazed and anxiously awaiting whatever comes next. WAYWARD does exactly that, melding the mythology of Japan and Ireland in a way that is uniquely it’s own, creating a fantastic and beautiful world filled with adventure…and danger.  We are at a critical point in the story, where Rory’s own father has…not gonna spoil it here, because the story appears to be far from over. Jim Zub’s script is matched only by the beauty of the artwork by Steven Cummings, with colors by Tamra Bonvillain. 9/10

X-O MANOWAR #9 (Valiant) – The war is over…but the conflict continues. Aric is a great war general, but can he keep the peace? He is beginning to learn that raw force may not be the answer here…just as a new danger is forming to come after him! I am always in awe of the dichotomy of this character – so much nobility mixed with his ability to wreak so much havoc.  It’s part of what makes this character, and this story, so great. Matt Kindt continues to deliver amazing scripts for this series, with equally outstanding artwork by Clayton Crain (with special thanks to Khari Evans). 9/10

That’s it for our Pressed to the 9’s list for this week…don’t miss out on The 10 Spot and The Great 8’s to see more of the very best in indie comics!
