Pressed to the 9s: VIOLENT LOVE, GRASS KINGS

Our Rating

Welcome back to PRESSED TO THE 9’s, our look at some of the best indie comics available at your comic shop NOW! This week you’ll find VIOLENT LOVE #6 from Image and GRASS KINGS #5 from BOOM! Let’s get started with…

VIOLENT LOVE #6 (Image) – I love reading about Daisy Jane…although I’m not sure I would survive meeting her. Daisy’s thirst for revenge leads her to give zero…you know…and takes her and her partner into an even more epic stunt than we’ve seen before. In this series, that’s really saying something. Frank Barbiere is an amazing writer, taking us through a different kind of Bonnie and Clyde for the ages, with exceptional artwork by Victor Santos. This is one of my favorite series, one of the best of 2017. 9/10

GRASS KINGS #5 (BOOM!) – The battle has become even more pitched in the Grass Kingdom, and things are looking bad for both sides. There are just too many people with too high an emotional state to ever cool things down, and the violence is completely out of hand. Even with all the action, there’s more than enough room in Matt Kindt’s script for the emotional tool that ll of this takes  This is another of the great books of 2017, with excellent artwork by Tyler Jenkins. 9/10

That’s it for our Pressed to the 9’s list for this week…don’t miss out on our 10 SPOT and GREAT 8’s lists to see more of the very best in indie comics!
