Pressed to the 9s: BANK SHOT, HERO KILLERS, FAITH AND THE FUTURE FORCE, CANNIBAL

Our Rating

Welcome back to PRESSED TO THE 9’s, our look at some of the best indie comics available at your comic shop NOW! This week you’ll find BANK SHOT #2 from Dark Horse, CANNIBAL #7 from Image, HERO KILLERS #3 from Dynamite, and FAITH AND THE FUTURE FORCE #1 from Valiant! Let’s get started with…

BANK SHOT #2 (Dark Horse) – We learn more about how Marcus King made it through that shot-in-the-back, how he came back from devastating injury, and how the plotting against him continue with extreme results. Alex de Campi gives us a sweeping, action-packed tale with exceptional characters and a riveting plot. The artwork by Chriscross (with colors by Snakebite Cortez) is spot-on. 9/10

CANNIBAL #7 (Image) – Jennifer Young and Brian Buccellato continue to creep us out (in a very good way) with this story of an illness that drives not-so-undead people to crave living flesh. Now that people we (and the people of the town) care about are affected, what DO you do? And, how far are you willing to go to protect them? Young and Buccellato’s script, and Matías Bergara’s artwork (with colors by Buccellato) vividly place us into this very disturbing place…and I enjoy every visit! 9/10

HERO KILLERS#3 (Dynamite) – The sidekicks have gone waaay off the rail, and their mentors are…what exactly did happen to them? One is absolutely and truly dead…but to know more you’ll have to grab this highly entertaining book. The sidekicks are falling apart, breaking down, spiraling…you get the idea, and it’s just part of the genius of this title. Ryan Browne, Pete Woods, and Celeste Woods continue to give us an outstanding story. 9/10

FAITH AND THE FUTURE FORCE #1 (Valiant) – What a GREAT start to a series! Faith is in hiding, having been framed for murder, but she still has a mission…one that will take her through time! This first issue gives us the basis for the plot, and puts a team together with some very interesting members! Jody Houser continues to gives us some amazing stories, combined with an exceptional art team (Stephen Segovia and Barry Kitson, with colors by Ulises Arreola).  I’m in on any book that stars Faith, and this one is more than worth that second (and third) read. 9/10

That’s it for our Pressed to the 9’s list for this week…don’t miss out on our 10 SPOT and GREAT 8’s lists to see more of the very best in indie comics!
