The Great 8s: VAMPIRELLA, AMERIKARATE

Our Rating

Welcome back to The Great 8s – our look at 8/10 rated indie comics you’ll find at your comic shop NOW! This week you’ll find VAMPIRELLA Vol, 4 #2 from Dynamite an AMERIKARATE #2 from Action Lab’s Danger Zone! Let’s get started with…

VAMPIRELLA V4 #2 (Dynamite) – Paul Cornell has taken Vampi into a strange future where blood has turned black, where people believe they can buy their way into the afterlife (sounds familiar in a way, at least with some people), and where someone is pulling the strings…but who? You’ll get closer to that answer in issue #2 of this new run for Vampirella. This is a great way to refresh the icon – placing her in a new and unfamiliar setting to showcase the core of the character. The artwork is excellent, with artwork by Jimmy Broxton. 8/10

AMERIKARATE #2 (Action Lab/Danger Zone) – This is an over-the-top amazing series, with a hero whose only job is to kick ass and be awesome! The plot makes exactly as much sense as the 80’s action movies it emulates…and it takes the hilarity of those movies (whether or not it was actually intended in those old flicks) and turns it up to 11. That was the best use of a Michael Bay reference I’ve ever seen (check it out and you’ll see what I mean). This book of awesome is co-written by Corey Kalman and Brockton McKinney, with illustrations by Devin Roth. DO NOT MISS AMERIKARATE! 8/10
