Our Rating

Welcome back to The Great 8s – our look at 8/10 rated indie comics you’ll find at your comic shop NOW! This week you’ll find DOCTOR WHO: THE TWELFTH DOCTOR ADVENTURES YEAR THREE #7 from Titan, MILLARWORLD NEW TALENT ANNUAL 2017 from Image, and KID SHERLOCK #4 from Action Lab! Let’s get started with…

DOCTOR WHO: THE TWELFTH DOCTOR ADVENTURES YEAR THREE #7 (Titan) – “The Wolves of Winter” has been a terrific adventure for the Twelfth Doctor and Bill, and it ends here in terrific fashion. Richard Dinnick’s excellent script is matched by spot-on artwork from Brian Williamson, Marcelo Salaza and Edu Menna (with colors by Hi-Fi).  There are some mind-blowing splash pages here that would do well as posters…and yet they still effectively drive the story forward.  I love what Titan is doing with all the Doctors, and any fan of the Twelfth Doctor would do well to check out this series! 8/10

MILLARWORLD NEW TALENT ANNUAL 2017 (Image) – I’m a fan of anthologies…and also a fan of new talent getting their chance at the spotlight. All of the stories are of familiar characters, from Kick-Ass to Superior to Huck and more…but from new talent with great stories to tell.  This one is definitely worth checking out! 8/10

KID SHERLOCK #4 (Action Lab) – This warm-hearted series gives us a childhood version of the World’s Greatest Detective, solving elementary…school problems with the help of a canine version of Watson. It’s a great book for young readers…and for those who remember the best of magazines like Highlights as well.  This is a fun read…not condescending to young readers but entertaining for any age Justin Phillips writes and letters KID SHERLOCK, with art by Sean Gregory Miller (with colors Lesley Atlansky).  8/10
