The Great 8s: GRASS KINGS, SHEENA

Our Rating

Welcome back to The Great 8s – our look at 8/10 rated indie comics you’ll find at your comic shop NOW! This week you’ll find GRASS KINGS #8 from BOOM!, and SHEENA QUEEN OF THE JUNGLE #2 from Dynamite! Let’s get started with…

GRASS KINGS #8 (BOOM!) – Matt Kindt takes this issue to give us the back story for Pike…and Pike’s story is absolutely worth the read! This unusual character has an even more unusual history, and Kindt gives us the details in a book that you won’t be able to put down The artwork by Tyler Jenkins (with colors by Hilary Jenkins) continues to excel. 8/10

SHEENA QUEEN OF THE JUNGLE #2 (Dynamite) – Marguerite Bennett and Christina Trujillo continue to give us a Sheena well worth following. Their script rides that very fine but important line that makes Sheena so amazing – Sheena may not know a lot about the world outside her homeland, but she is exceptionally knowledgeable and capable…and if you want to survive for long, it’s a good idea to listen to her. The artwork is part amazing throwback and  part fresh new take, thanks to Moritat and Dimi Macheras (with colors by Moritat and Casey Silver). 8/10
