The Great 8s: ELEANOR EGRET, TWELFTH DOCTOR

Our Rating

Welcome back to The Great 8s – our look at 8/10 rated indie comics you’ll find at your comic shop NOW! This week you’ll find ELEANOR EGRET #2 from Aftershock and DOCTOR WHO: THE TWELFTH DOCTOR ADVENTURES YEAR THREE #3 from Titan! Let’s get started with…

ELEANOR EGRET #2 (Aftershock) – If you are a fan of CHEW (like me), then you know that John Layman is a master in scripting wonderfully quirky tales.  ELEANOR EGRET is a very different story, but that wonderfully quirky quality stays the same (just with a less gustatory…no, wait…). We’re starting to get a better picture of why Eleanor is doing…what she is doing, though the full picture (pardon the pun) hasn’t yet been made clear. What is becoming clear is that someone wishes her harm…and someone else appears to be at least a little smitten with Eleanor. This is a deliciously fun story, with beautiful artwork by Sam Keith (colors by Ronda Pattison). 8/10

DOCTOR WHO: THE TWELFTH DOCTOR ADVENTURES YEAR THREE #3 (Titan) – The seaweed husk creatures continue to cause havoc, and there seems to be no way to stop them. And yes, that could well be said of any adversary of the Doctor (all the way up until the Doctor stops them). Yet, there is something different about this group of creatures, especially in the way they affect Hattie. This is a great middle chapter of the story – can’t wait to see how this ends next issue! George Mann consistently gives us exceptional stories of the Doctor, and the illustrations by Mariano Laclaustra (with assist by Fer Centurion, and colors by Carlos Cabrera & Hernan Cabrera) are spot-on! 8/10
