The Great 8s: BRILLIANT TRASH, TWELFTH DOCTOR

Welcome back to The Great 8s – our look at 8/10 rated indie comics you’ll find at your comic shop NOW! This week you’ll find BRILLIANT TRASH #1 from Aftershock, and DOCTOR WHO: THE TWELFTH DOCTOR ADVENTURES YEAR THREE #9 from Titan! Let’s get started with…

BRILLIANT TRASH #1 (Aftershock) – Tim Seeley and Steve Seeley give us a world where med-tech can make you a super-powered god-like being…if you’re willing to give up days, weeks, or even years off your life.  After the “Lady Lastword” incident wipes the Old City of Jerusalem off the map, a not-too-respected journalist may hold the key to getting the truth out…if anyone will believe her. BRILLIANT TRASH is head-spinning, dropping you straight into the rabbit hole from the first page.  It’s the start to a great series, with terrific artwork by Priscilla Petraites (and colors by Marco Lesko).  8/10

DOCTOR WHO: THE TWELFTH DOCTOR ADVENTURES YEAR THREE #9 (Titan) – In a one-shot that gives us a break between more intense arcs, the Doctor, Bill and Nardole go…shopping! Of course, nothing with the Doctor is simple, and neither is the “shop”, known as the Ubermarket. It’s more hilarity this issue, with a dose or two of more serious matters, but still a fun read overall.  Richard Dinnick gives us the excellent script, with artwork by Pasquale Qualano and colors by Hi-Fi. 8/10
