Now that Zazie Beetz has been cast as Domino, the last major empty spot is for the role of Cable. The Hollywood Reporter has announced that a source has confirmed that Superman: Man of Steel actor, Michael Shannon is the front runner. They also stated that Stranger Things actor David Harbour is also in the running but Shannon is the current favorite.
This may upset many fans who were holding out hope that Avatar’s Stephen Lang would get the spot, mainly due to likeness rights. Now fans should be holding out hope that Shannon can persuade his 8-Mile coworker Eminem to write the follow up to Teamheadkick’s Deadpool Rap.
It most be noted that before Beetz was cast as Domino there were multiple front runners reported during the casting process. These rumors were all debunked after Beetz was announced out of the blue.
Whomever they actually cast will be playing opposite to Ryan Reynolds. Ryan Reynolds is obviously reprising his role as the titled foul mouthed mercenary who has a penchant for chimichangas and stabbing. This sequel will be directed by David Leitch who replaced Tim Miller after a reported disagreement between Miller and Reynolds about the direction of the film.
Cable is Marvel’s time traveling mutant who’s real name is Nathan Summers. He posses telepathy, telikinesis, cybernetic enhancments and technopathy (whatever that is…fine, it’s the ability to control technology). Nathan Summers is also the son of Scott Summers (Cyclops) and Madelyne Pryor (Jean Grey’s Clone). Cable first appeared in Uncanny X-Men #201 (1986) as Nathan Summers and was created by the great Chris Claremont. He first appeared as Cable in New Mutants #87 (1990) and was created by Louise Simonson and the self proclaimed great, Rob Liefeld.
