Today DC Comics announced via Twitter that Eisner winner Brian Michael Bendis has signed a multi-year, multi-facet deal to join the DC writing team:
Bendis confirmed this by re-tweeting this message with his own sentiments attached:
No word has been given on when Bendis will officially end his 17+ career with Marvel but it can be assumed that Marvel fans are crushed. Bendis’ name is commonly mentioned when discussing all time top writers in the medium, and has already secured his legacy as a comic book legend. A legacy that comes from being responsible for series like Ultimate Spider-man, Alias, Powers and many more. He is the creator of beloved characters such as Jessica Jones and Miles Morales. His departure will no doubly leave a void at Marvel.
This move will be huge for DC and strengthen an already strong writing team that consists of Scott Snyder, James Tynion IV, Marguerite Bennett and Eisner Winner Tom King. Though details have not been given on his role with DC, fans can only speculate that he will most likely take on a Batman story or two, revive some c-list characters and create some powerful new characters that will become iconic with time. Now, we can only hope that Geoff Johns brings him on to help save the floundering film side of DC.
