The 10 Spot: WAYWARD, X-O MANOWAR

Our Rating

Welcome once again to THE 10 SPOT – TMStash’s round-up of the very best in Indie comics each week. This week brings us WAYWARD #21 from Image, along with X-O MANOWAR #4 from Valiant! Let’s get started with…

WAYWARD #21 (Image) – Nikaido senses and controls emotions, gaining energy that can…be a significant factor in this issue of WAYWARD.  I’m glad to hear that this series has been optioned to become an anime (or even live-action) television series. WAYWARD is one of the most beautifully written and illustrated books in comics today…a rich world filled with Japanese and Irish folklore combined with characters drawn from today’s culture. This is one of my favorite books, with an amazing script by Jim Zub, line art by Steven Cummings, and colors by Tamra Bonvillain. 10/10

X-O MANOWAR #4 (Valiant) – Matt Kindt’s take on Aric of Dacia gives us a brutal warrior, tempered by a nobility that few leaders show. Aric is trying to leave the X-O armor behind…but how long can he do so with the trials he is facing? No one can truly be trusted…except for Aric…and his armor? Doug Braithewaite is on top of his game with the line art, with exceptional colors by Diego Rodriguez. 10/10

That’s it for this week’s 10 SPOT – but we aren’t done yet with our round-up of great indie books! Be sure to look for PRESSED TO THE 9’s and THE GREAT 8’s for more reviews of amazing indie comics!
