The 10 Spot: NINJAK, TIME & VINE, KILL OR BE KILLED

Our Rating

Welcome once again to THE 10 SPOT – TMStash’s round-up of the very best in Indie comics each week. This week brings us NINJAK #0 from Valiant, TIME & VINE #3 from IDW, and KILL OR BE KILLED #12 from Image! Let’s get started with…

NINJAK #0 (Valiant) – Writer Matt Kindt bids a fond farewell to Ninjak in this extra size, action packed story. You want to know all about this fan favorite character? Look no further – you’ll get a full history here, told in a pulse-pounding story (love the arrow’s flight framing device). The back up story is from upcoming NINJA-K writer Christos Gage – if this story is any indication, Colin’s future is in very good hands. The artwork for the main story is by Francis Portela (pencils) and Andrew Dalhouse (colors), with flashback sequences by MJ Kim, Khari Evans, Roberto De La Torre, Sija Hong, and Juan José Ryp. The second storys art comes from Tomás Giorello, with colors by Diego Rodriguez. Sounds like an All-Star team up? Yes – and that’s exactly what an issue like this deserves! 10/10

TIME & VINE #3 (IDW) – Thom Zahler creates some of the most friendly and warm characters in comics – you cannot help but like them. The characters are the key – very “normal” characters placed in a wildly fantastic premise…though if you have to time travel, what’s wrong with a little glass of wine to send you on your way? Megan and Jack are traveling to some pretty important days…at least on a personal level…and family mysteries abound in this wonderful tale. Zahler also provides the artwork, with colors by Luigi Anderson. I love TIME & VINE – it’s the warmest, most fun read out today! 10/10

KILL OR BE KILLED #12 (Image) – This series has taken a significant turn…without losing one ounce of quality. Dylan is coming to his senses…but there is still the Russian Mob after him, and whether there is a demon or not compelling Dylan to kill, he still must “Kill or Be Killed” to survive whatever is coming next. Dylan has, if anything, become an even more compelling protagonist in this series, with a fantastic creative team of Ed Brubaker, Sean Phillips, and Elizabeth Breitweiser. This is a series that is appointment reading for me – and if you check it out you’ll feel the same way 10/10

That’s it for this week’s 10 SPOT – but we aren’t done yet with our round-up of great indie books! Be sure to look for PRESSED TO THE 9’s and THE GREAT 8’s for more reviews of amazing indie comics!
