The 10 Spot: IMMORTAL BROTHERS, GRASS KINGS

Our Rating

Welcome once again to THE 10 SPOT – TMStash’s round-up of the very best in Indie comics each week. This week brings us IMMORTAL BROTHERS: THE TALE OF THE GREEN KNIGHT from Valiant, an GRASS KINGS #2 from BOOM! Let’s get started with…

IMMORTAL BROTHERS: THE TALE OF THE GREEN KNIGHT #1 (Valiant) – Fred Van Lente returns to give us an Archer & Armstrong twist to the classic stories of Camelot. Archer is helping his girlfriend Faith get over a bad case of con crud (you need to check recent storylines of Faith) by telling her the tale from Armstrong’s point of view. You know this will be both ridiculous and completely awesome…and it is! The artwork is just as outstanding, with pencils by Cary Nord with Clayton Henry, inks by Mark Morales, and colors by Brian Reber. This one-off book is MORE than worth the price of admission. 10/10

GRASS KINGS #2 (BOOM!) – Put Matt Kindt and Tyler Jenkins together and I’m all in for the story. GRASS KINGS is amazing – mysterious and moving, wonderfully written and illustrated…it’s the real deal. This separatist community, built on a piece of land with real history, is falling apart at the seams…as is the town nearby in its own way. This is a classic – and easily a 10/10.

That’s it for this week’s 10 SPOT – but we aren’t done yet with our round-up of great indie books! Be sure to look for PRESSED TO THE 9’s and THE GREAT 8’s for more reviews of amazing indie comics!
