The 10 Spot: DIVINITY II, IMPERIUM, DREAM POLICE

Our Rating

Welcome once again to THE 10 SPOT – TMStash’s round-up of the very best in Indie comics each week. This week brings us DIVINITY II #2 and IMPERIUM #16 from Valiant, and DREAM POLICE #10 from Image/Joe’s Comics! Let’s get started with…

DIVINITY II #2 (Valiant) – The original DIVINITY turned a lot of heads…but if anything DIVINITY II turns things up a notch.  The first being with godlike powers developed a conscience, and that made the difference at the end of the day. But, what if someone with those powers had no conscience at all? What if they were so devoted to their original leaders that they would do anything to make that now-discarded dream a reality? This issue gives us part of the answer…including what could happen when both of these people meet! Matt Kindt continues to weave a riveting story, with beautiful artwork by Trevor Hairsine (pencils), Ryan Winn (inks), and David Baron (colors). 10/10

IMPERIUM #16 (Valiant) – The battle has been won…hasn’t it? The forces aligned against Toyo Harada are all but in tatters, and the last defense is Livewire, who is in a major set-to of her own with Mech Major.  Harada is on his way, but what will he find? This has been a powerful series from the start, but the story is moving up in intensity with every page. It’s a terrific story by Joshua Dysart, with amazing artwork by Khari Evans (pencils), Victor Olazaba (inks), and Ulises Arreola (colors).  10/10

DREAM POLICE #10 (Image/Joe’s Comics) – It all comes crashing in, as Joe finally sees through the charade that has kept him in the Dreamscape all this time. What makes a good member of the Dream Police? The answer is horrifying…and all too true for Sgt. Thursday.  J. Michael Straczynski has taken us from the “real” to the fantastic and now back again for a gut-punch of a story, with terrific artwork by Sid Kotian and colors by HiFi. 10/10

That’s it for this week’s 10 SPOT – but we aren’t done yet with our round-up of great indie books! Be sure to look for PRESSED TO THE 9’s and THE GREAT 8’s for more reviews of amazing indie comics!
