The 10 Spot: CROSSWIND, RED SONJA

Our Rating

Welcome once again to THE 10 SPOT – TMStash’s round-up of the very best in Indie comics each week. This week brings us CROSSWIND #5 from Image and RED SONJA Vol. 4 # 10 from Dynamite! Let’s get started with…

CROSSWIND #5 (Image) – We finally learn the how and why of the switch between Juniper and Cason, and it adds to the danger each is in right now. But, even if we had never learned that, this would still be a powerful story as each person learns to live in the other’s body. There are so many little things in how they express gender that are so interesting – the way that Juniper (in Cason’s body) still holds her towel over her chest, the way that Cason (in Juniper’s body) still “manspreads” when sitting…and then the ways that each is living who they are now, making their lives work as who they are. There is no way to fully describe how amazing this tale is in just a paragraph or two…so go and grab CROSSWIND now! Gail Simone writes and Cat Staggs illustrates this 10/10 book.

RED SONJA Vol 4 #10 (Dynamite) – Everything in today’s world seems to be pointing to a casino in Las Vegas, and the very-much-still-alive Sonja is on her way there! This issue gives us some of the very best of Red Sonja’s fighting ability – paired with a surprise appearance of someone she and her friends didn’t expect to see so far from where they started out. Amy Chu is on a roll with RED SONJA – an outstanding arc, with excellent artwork by Carlos Gomez (with colors by Mohon).  The cover by Amy Reeder is a definite bonus as well! 10/10

That’s it for this week’s 10 SPOT – but we aren’t done yet with our round-up of great indie books! Be sure to look for PRESSED TO THE 9’s for more reviews of amazing indie comics!
