The 10 Spot: BLOODSHOT’S DAY OFF, THE UNSOUND

Our Rating

Welcome once again to THE 10 SPOT – TMStash’s round-up of the very best in Indie comics each week. This week brings us BLOODSHOT’S DAY OFF #1 from Valiant and THE UNSOUND #2 from BOOM! Let’s get started with…

BLOODSHOT’S DAY OFF #1 (Valiant) – The ads for this issue told us that there might be a tear shed…and of course I never believe that…must be something in my eye, that’s all. Okay, I may have shed a tear (or two, or…) for this tale. We follow two of the earlier versions of Bloodshot on their one day off, and their stories pull at the heartstrings like few other tales do. Before you think I’m an old softie (I may be), check out this amazing story by Eliot Rahal. The artwork by Khari Evans (with colors by Andrew Dalhouse) is outstanding. This is an amazing one-shot, one that any Bloodshot fan should have in their collection. 10/10

THE UNSOUND #2 (BOOM!) – Writer Cullen Bunn is a master of horror, giving a unique voice and a singular twist to the genre. We’ve met Ashli in the first issue, and we’ve seen through her eyes the horrors that live in this re-opened asylum. But, if you think we’re going for the “no one else can see” trope, think again. This gets real, and really fast. The key is survival – and whether that is even possible is something we won’t learn for sure in this issue. Still, there are plenty of twists and shocks that should satisfy any horror fan. The artwork by Jack T. Cole sets a perfect tone to go with Cullen Bunn’s script. Don’t miss it! 10/10

That’s it for this week’s 10 SPOT – but we aren’t done yet with our round-up of great indie books! Be sure to look for PRESSED TO THE 9’s and THE GREAT 8’s for more reviews of amazing indie comics!
