The 10 Spot: ANIMOSITY: EVOLUTION, THE UNSOUND

Welcome once again to THE 10 SPOT – TMStash’s round-up of the very best in Indie comics each week. This week brings us ANIMOSITY: EVOLUTION #2 from Aftershock, and THE UNSOUND #6 from BOOM! Let’s get started with…

ANIMOSITY: EVOLUTION #2 (Aftershock) – Marguerite Bennett continues to expand the world after all animal life “wakes up”, taking us to the West Coast USA to see how life is moving along there.  We follow “mere rodents” as they struggle to find freedom (just a note, I’ve worked in healthcare all my career and never giggled at the word “Septicemia” until reading this issue – check it out and you’ll see what we mean). As with the main ANIMOSITY storyline, you will find every emotional string being tugged. There is love, humor, deceit and danger all wrapped up within the same tale. I am a huge fan of ANIMOSITY and of ANIMOSITY: EVOLUTION. The artwork matches the quality of the script, thanks to Eric Gapstur’s illustrations, with colors by Rob Schwager. 10/10

THE UNSOUND #6 (BOOM!) – We’ve been building to a fever pitch as the world gets more and more insane…but is our protagonist really the Mother of Blades? And if so, what exactly does that mean for the world? We are coming to a close on a terrific arc…hopefully to see even more of this amazing, eerie story. Cullen Bunn has an amazing ability to draw the reader into the most horrific worlds, and THE UNSOUND is a great example of that talent. Jack T. Cole’s artwork is the perfect compliment to this story. This is one of the very best horror tales going – don’t miss it! 10/10

That’s it for this week’s 10 SPOT – but we aren’t done yet with our round-up of great indie books! Be sure to look for PRESSED TO THE 9’s and THE GREAT 8’s for more reviews of amazing indie comics!
