Our Rating

Welcome once again to THE 10 SPOT – TMStash’s round-up of the very best in Indie comics each week. This week brings us ANIMOSITY #12 from Aftershock, ETERNAL OGN from Black Mask, DOCTOR WHO: THE TENTH DOCTOR ADVENTURES YEAR THREE #13 from Titan, and QUANTUM & WOODY #2 from Valiant! Let’s get stated with…

ANIMOSITY #12 (Aftershock) – This series won Best Series of 2017 (Indies) in our TMStash awards…and the high quality of this series continues in issue #12.  If you haven’t been on board yet, ANIMOSITY is set in a world where all animals have become “awake”, able to communicate directly with each others and with humans…and they are tired of how they been treated all these years. But, this premise has been developed with so much substance, becoming a mirror into so much of our society today. It’s filled with heartwarming moments, shocking brutality, high action/adventure – it’s got everything.  Put together Marguerite Bennett’s outstanding scripts with Rafael De Latorre’s fantastic artwork (with Rob Schwager’s great colors) and you have a book that is absolutely a 10/10

ETERNAL OGN (Black Mack) – We’ve been following Ryan K Lindsay for almost as long as we’ve had this site. Every story has been outstanding, each with a unique premise and well-paced stories. In this case, Lindsay co-writes with illustrator Eric Zawadzki for a fantastic OGN called ETERNAL: A SHIELDMAIDEN GHOST STORY.  This is a story filled with tremendous battles, dark magic, and heartbreaking tragedy…and a protagonist with more nobility and determination and any you’ve seen in a long time. This OGN lets the artwork tell much of the story, and it is done exceptionally well.  This book was 3 years in the making…and definitely worth the wait. These creators worked together before on another book we loved called HEADSPACE…and this story, if anything, is even better than that fantastic title.  10/10

DOCTOR WHO: THE TENTH DOCTOR ADVENTURES YEAR THREE #13 (Titan) – The Time Sentinels seem to be disagreeing among themselves, but the winning argument appears to be erasing the Doctor from all history! This has been a fantastic story that loops in and through itself even more than the typical tale of the Doctor…but that is a very good thing.  Writer Nick Abadzis continues to excel with his work on the Doctor, with excellent artwork from Giorgia Sposito (with colors from Arianna Florean). 10/10

QUANTUM & WOODY #2 (Valiant) – This new series gives us the best of the ultimate dysfunctional duo. Add the fact that Woody’s biological dad has reappeared…in the hands of Negative One’s secretive boss…and you have the start of something awesome. Okay, full of a lot of stupid and hilarious stunts, but still awesome. Any fan of this pair will know they are in good hands with writer Daniel Kibblesmith, and with Kano’s art.  10/10

That’s it for this week’s roundup of the very best in comics! Be sure to check in with us next week for more of The 10 Spot!
