The 10 Spot: ALTERS, BLOODSHOT SALVATION, NINJAK VS THE VALIANT UNIVERSE

Our Rating

Welcome once again to THE 10 SPOT – TMStash’s round-up of the very best in Indie comics each week. This week brings us ALTERS #9 from Aftershock, along with BLOODSHOT SALVATION #5 and NINJAK VS THE VALIANT UNIVERSE #1 from Valiant! Let’s get started with…

ALTERS #9 (Aftershock) – This series continues to impress, with a diverse cast full of compelling characters. Philip has made a fateful choice to be a hero, even though it will cut his life expectancy down to weeks instead of years. Chalice also is making important personal choices, and finds she still has a best friend she can call brother. All of this, though, is leading up to a rescue mission…can they help Sharise save her child? The mission is about to go sideways, but the action and the emotion here are top notch. Paul Jenkins continues to give us outstanding stories, and the artwork by Leila Leiz with colors by Leonardo Paciarotti is amazing. 10/10

BLOODSHOT SALVATION #5 (Valiant) – Bloodshot is somehow trapped in the far future, while his and Magic’s child continues to be in danger in the present. We do get a flashback to Ray Garrison, with his nanites no longer active, facing down Magic’s father…and it is a brutal, horrific fight. Ray’s only saving grace comes from a cameo appearance by [REDACTED]…and even then the drama only escalates. This is a powerful tale by Jeff Lemire, with exceptional art by Lewis LaRosa and Mico Suayan with colors by Diego Rodriguez. 10/10

NINJAK VS THE VALIANT UNIVERSE #1 (Valiant) – Okay, the title says it all (almost).  You know this will be an epic battle, and the series should be one of the best Valiant has given us in a while (and that’s truly saying something).  What you don’t know (until you read this issue) is why everyone is out to get Ninjak, and how all this started.  You’ll get that full scoop here…and I can’t wait for more.  Eliot Rahal nails this script, with great artwork by Joe Bennett with Belardino Brabo and colors by Ulises Arreola. This series will throw everyone at us! 10/10

That’s it for this week’s 10 Spot. Be sure to check out our PRESSED TO THE 9s list, and join us again next week for more reviews of the BEST in indie comics!
